I'm moving house this weekend (oh, the stress! So...many...boxes) and will likely be without internet connection for around two weeks. Hopefully less.

If you need to get in touch with me in that time, please leave a comment here! My email access is blocked from my place of work. (but lj isn't...obviously they haven't discovered it yet!)

I have found it disconcerting to note that about 1/4 of *all* the stuff I own...are comic books O_O

Catch y'all in two weeks! Stay safe, kids.

Holla flist!

I have been very quiet recently, not just because of the whole strikethrough07 thing but because I have been very, very busy. Job searching is hard work, y'know?
But hard work can pay off.
I got a job! ♥
I am now a Marketing Assistant for a small company and I start work on Monday.
I'm excited and also relieved. For the first time in months I won't have to worry as much about where my next meal is coming from! Plus, I am moving into a new house with cheaper rent at the end of the month with my best friend and boyfriend. So life is most definitely looking up!

Secondly, I have decided in the interests of being organised and archiving to post all my fanart to a community of my own creation. I have also decided that my adult art will now be locked (this isn't just a reaction to strikethrough, but also because people I know in RL are becoming more aware of my fandom involvement, and there are just some things that I would rather they didn't know!). To be able to see my adult art you will have to become a member of this community. Of course, you can also see my adult art on [info]daily_deviant and [info]smut_wednesday.

[info]artfishy - join, rave, mock, whatever!

In celebration of my new art journal I have some fanart for y'all. And I know you all love pirates. Who doesn't love a pirate?!

Title: Oh my god, Pirates!
Fandom: Various!
Characters: Guybrush Threepwood (Monkey Island!), Balthier (FFXII), Jack Sparrow (PotC), Captain Mal Reynolds (Firefly), Captain Hook (Peter Pan), Han Solo (Star Wars), Dread Pirate Roberts (Princess Bride)
Rating: G

Oh my god, Pirates! (warning - massive image ahead)

Right, I am off to go buy myself a new work wardrobe. Yay!

So, I have refrained (until now, obviously) from making a post on the Sideshow Mary Jane Comiquette controversy since I figured that I didn't have anything new or original to add to the argument. But then I started thinking that maybe silent agreement doesn't help at all, and I would have to add my own voice to the chorus as Ragnell points out, if I really want to help push for change.

Don't know what I'm on about? Check out Mary Jane doing Peter Parker's laundry under the cut.

The source of the controversy )

There is nothing about the comics industry that can not survive without sexism. In fact, we would all be a lot better off without it, don't you think? Those that defend it are out-dated dinosaurs. Nothing more. We need to keep pushing, keep complaining, keep pointing out how insulting it is...it will make the difference. Cause enough fuss then eventually they *are* going to have to answer us.

Question about communities...

How do you make it so that an f-locked post on a community can only be seen by *members* and not just people who have friended the community?
Or am I being *really* dense?

Help!

(I've got something in the works...)

Brits on my flist (and anyone else who might watch this show...)

Where is all the Peep Show slash? I mean, the show is hilarious...and Mark & Jeremy are practically *made* for slashing.

Even the pit turns up no results!

Free ticket to Sectus still up for grabs!

I would still really like to provide someone with the opportunity of taking my place at Sectus. I think it would feel good, to know that someone is there having an awesome time even if I can't be.

Maybe there is someone on your flist who would love to go and can't afford it? Remember, I am offering this for no money at all! Spread the love!

If you would prefer to email me rather than leaving a comment, you can do so at violetfishy@livejournal.com

(if you want to pimp this to your own flist, by all means, feel free)

Taken!

Thank you to everyone who pimped this on their flists. I really appreciate it. This ticket is going to someone that I know will get the most out of it!

There is an awful lot going on in my life right now and I do wish I had more time for fandom. And in that respect I was really looking forward to Sectus this summer, having bought may ticket way back in October.

However, it is starting to look very likely that my brother is to be married on the same weekend as Sectus. When it comes down to it, I really do want to pick my brother's marriage over Harry Potter and fandom. Secondly, my sister, neices and nephews will be visiting at the time of Sectus too. I only get to see them every year or two as they live in Norway...so once again I have to put them first. Lastly, with any luck I should be starting a whole new career soon and it will be difficult to ask for a holiday when I have *just* started somewhere and am trying to prove myself.
All these factors to add up to...I just can't go to Sectus. :(

And oh boy, did I want to go! I'm pretty gutted about it ;_;

So, I was thinking, what to do with my ticket? And I have a thought...

Is there anyone on my flist who *really* wants to go to Sectus but just can't afford it? Maybe you have a friend who wants to go but has no ticket?
If you fit the bill, leave a comment (they are screened) and I am offering you my place and registration at Sectus for free. I have already talked to the bookings office and they have no problem with re-arranging my registration for someone else.

If I can't go, I want someone else to go in my place! Someone that is going to have an awesome time.
Any takers?

So, I have been thinking about creating a journal/community specifically for my fanart.

I don't have the time or disipline to create a website and at the moment all my art is scattered across communities and has no clear tagging system. Also, because my photobucket account was TOS'd (no real surprise) a lot of my older fanart is just broken links now...and I do get emails and comments from people asking where the art is gone! So I was thinking of using another journal simply to create an archive.

I would still post art here and to communities, but it would pull it all together in one, convienient place.

Flist, I need the use of your awesome fandom powers to assist me on something. I want to know about pirates.
Name me pirates of the sea/sky/space. Nothing too obscure, more fandomy than historical please!

I have this list so far -
Han Solo
Jack Sparrow
Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds (Firefly)
Balthier (FFXII)

My reasons will become clear in a future post :)

Ha!
It took about 80 hours and a party of level 50 characters, but I completed Final Fantasy XII the other day.

Possible spoilers )

I only completed about 30 hunts and left many sidequests uncompleted. My plan is to have a break for a while and then buy the guide and complete absolutely everything. Oh yes, the second time that Zodiac Spear will be mine! Bwhahahaha.

Right now I have lots of fanart projects I need to catch up on. Eep! *picks up pencil*

I haven't been on lj much this past week because Final Fantasy XII has taken over all my spare time.

I think I have literally played nearly 20 hours of it this weekend alone...

Anyway, I am right near the end, but I thought I would go and complete some sidequests before I go kill the big bad. And I decided to have a look at some FAQs to see what I have missed.
...
Well, this game is fucking massive. I think it will take me another 60 hours to complete it all (and I messed up getting the Zodiac Spear within the first hour of playing).

Do I waste another 60 hours or do I go for the end? Hmmm...I could always play it again. And I think my housemate would appreciate it if I finished the game so he could claim the tv back. I'll probably end up with Balthier withdrawal symptoms or something...

So, I've been hanging around [info]fandom_in_color and the incomparable [info]glockgal posted some awesome lineart of Robin and Superboy. It was hard to resist the urge to colour it. So I did!

Constructive crit would be very much appreciated here (I feel as if I learn new things about photoshop all the time and I haven't really "found" my own style with it yet). But, remember, I did not draw this (I bloody wish) - [info]glockgal did!

S is for Superboy )

Tim and Kon = love. Trufax.

[info]brown_betty is hosting a five stories to introduce an outsider to your fandom meme.

Since my flist is mainly HP I thought I would share some DC fic with y'all! This fic is well worth reading, even if you know nothing about comics, because yes, it is that damn good.

Whatever life you wear (part of the Ways to be Quiet series) by [info]glossing (Bart/Tim, adult) - it is hard to pick just one fic from Gloss but this is one I have gone back and read 3 or 4 times. This fic is just full of so many moments when your heart tightens or you smile or you are just taken aback with the sheer *insight* Gloss has for the characters she writes. It works so well because Gloss *shows* you why they need one another in the course of the fic. Tim is a Robin who *needs* a Robin. Just brilliant.

Five Ways Gothamites Saved Themselves by [info]miarrow (original characters, G) - this has a wonderful way of showing us the larger effects Batman and crew have on the people of Gotham. This is about ordinary people doing what they can, being heroes and what it is like to live in Gotham.

Karma Police by [info]wickedprincess3 (Cass/Tim, Pg-13) - this did the near impossible for me and made sense of current Robin canon. It's Tim (Robin)/Cass (Batgirl) but there is a wonderful moment with Bart (the current Flash who grew four years in a day, really!) that shows astute he can truely be. Tim will break your heart, he is so empty and Cass is so angry, and you really do feel for them both.

And sometimes discerned by [info]thete1 and [info]weirdnessmagnet (Robin/Kid Flash/Superboy, Nc-17) - Tim/Bart/Kon in their early Teen Titans era. Everything about this fic just *works* and the smut doesn't just seem PWP but almost as an inevitability for these three. And it has to be, hands down, one of the *hottest* fics I have ever read.

I, Janitor by [info]dotfic - okay, so this is JLU, but I would still but it under the banner of DC fic. It's the story of a guy who works on the JL Watchtower and seeing the JL through an ordinary dudes eyes. There are some fantastic character insights dervied from this. It also has lovely little references to SGA and Buffy!

If anyone would like to recommend me fics from a fandom I have no clue about, that would be great!

The [info]witchwinter reveals are up! You should go check out the Masterlist because there is some fantastic femslash fic and art there.

[info]ragdoll wrote me the wonderful Another Girl (Ginny/Luna, nc-17) which I recommended a few weeks back. But I am recommeding it again! It is very sweet :D

I drew two pieces.
